Introduction
AutoCAD has its variety of commands. Proper use of commands results in effective and fast completion of the drawing. So, it is necessary to know all the commands. The commands given to the computer should be in the proper sequence or it may lack the performance of the computer. Generally people says that AutoCAD ruins the performance the reason behind it is we don't give the commands to the computer in the proper sequence. The commands given to the computer must be in the proper sequence and effective. e.g. for making a square instead of using line command using the rectangle is always a better choice. It helps us to avoid the wastage of time and the work can be done effectively.
Drawing commands
There are lot's of commands inside AutoCAD but now we will mainly focus on the Drawing commands. We will try to make new drawing objects. some of the basic drawing commands are:
Icon | Function | Command | Location | Result |
Line | L / Line |
Home > Draw > Line | To draw the straight line segments.
Polyline | _pline |
Home > Draw > PolyLine | It is a connected segments of line to create a single planer object.
|
Rectangle | _rectang |
Home > Draw > Rectangle | To draw the rectangular polyline. |
Circle | _circle |
Home > Draw > Circle | Create a circle using a center point and radius.
Arc | arc / E |
Home > Draw > Arc [center/start/end] | Creates an arc using 3 points.
Erase | _erase |
Home > Modify > Erase | To remove the object.
Undo | CTRL + Z |
Quick Access Toolbar > Undo | Removes the recent action. |

- Create a new drawing document from the application menu. by clicking on new document. or just use CTRL + N
- A new dialogue box will appear having lot's of drawing formats. From that select the acad.dwt template.
Figure 1.2.2 Dialogue of template Selection.
- Now, you have created your document. Now all you have to do is just draw some of the basic stuff the same way we do inside the paint.
- Initially we will try to draw the rectangle given above. We know that the starting and ending point of rectangle is (2,2) so select the ractangle from the HOME > DRAW > RECTANGLE or use _rectang command in the command box.
- Now the next thing it will ask you about the starting point. As we know our starting co-ordinate is (2,2) so just put "2" now press "," and again put "2".
Figure 1.2.3 : Setting out 1st point of Rectangle - Now you will see the starting point is fixed on the working place now we have to provide the final co-ordinate. The same way we will provide the final co-ordinate which is (6,6) and press Enter will show you the formed rectangle.
Figure 1.2.4 : Rectangle Formed with final co-ordinate - Now we have completed our rectangle now next thing we have to do is to draw a circle. First we look about the information of circle, for the circle we have got it's center point and it's diameter.
- Try to make it yourself rather than following the steps. If you think that you can't then you can see the following hint.
